A perfect solution for emergency lighting
Garda Illuminated LED Handrails from DW Windsor have provided a perfect solution for lighting stairways at the SSE Hydro Arena in Glasgow.
Arup’s lighting design team quickly discounted traditional bulkhead methods (from the walls) for not meeting aesthetical requirements. With a stainless steel handrail already planned for the ground level up to the VIP area Arup took the inspired decision to integrate the lighting, specifying DW Windsor’s Garda LED handrail.
Using latest LED light source technology, Garda is an illuminated handrail and balustrade system that delivers market-leading photometric performance, ensuring unparalleled uniformity across the 2.4m stair treads at the SSE Hydro.
Garda provides a 3 hour battery back-up system in the event of emergency, high energy efficiency and a life of in excess of 60,000 hours (to L70). Low energy consumption and negligible maintenance requirements will also reduce any lifecycle cost to the arena’s operators.
