High power laboratory
Ormazabal's high power laboratory opened in 2008 in Vizcaya, Spain for the testing and certifying of medium voltage electrical equipment. It features:
- 2.5GVA short circuit generator driven by 3-phase motor up to 3000 or 3600rpm depending on frequency requirements (50 or 60Hz)
- Millisecond controlled make switch for test circuit energising
- Air-core current limiting reactors for testing with different currents
- MV transformer bank able to withstand both symmetrical and asymmetrical short-circuit currents
- 3-Phase low loltage transformer for LV testing
- Resistive, inductive and capacitive impedance banks for controlling circuit charge
- All remotely controlled by a central laboratory management system
