Cablofil designs bespoke lighting support system for T5

Cablofil has worked with Crown House Technologies to design a lighting support system for Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5B - part of the largest construction project in Europe.
The system, based on Cablofil's wire mesh cable tray, was simple to install and secures more than 400 lights to the curved ceiling of the terminal building - carrying power and digital control signals to each fitting.
In only 18 months, the two companies designed, developed and fitted a system that incorporates customised yoke brackets to secure three-metre lengths of wire tray upside down along ducts in the roof, and a custom-designed solid metal lid that covers the tray and is coloured to match the terminal's décor. The tray supports the weight of the fittings, while power and control cables are easily accessible from below because the lid is fixed with recessed clips. And all this work is designed to take place above passengers' heads!
Crown House project engineer Julien Hipeau said the wire mesh tray was easier to install than the busbar-based system that had been considered previously.
