A government investment of £950m will help create and safeguard more than 200,000 jobs across England, the deputy prime minister Nick Clegg will announce today.
The Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) has issued a strong warning to government that any plans for a drastic cut in Feed-in Tariffs (FITs) are set to wreak havoc with green jobs and growth, and could easily send out the signal that small scale renewables are too risky for installers or customers to invest in.

Solar Power developer Enfinity is announcing a number of new projects at the Solar Power UK 2011 event, which will make solar energy more accessible and profitable to customers from large-scale landlords to individual occupiers. Martin Allman, Enfinity UK trade manager, is running Enfinity’s stand at the event. He said: Thousands of homes and businesses across the UK are now benefitting from solar power, with lower fuel bills and the ability to earn a tax-free income through the government’s feed-in-tariff scheme. But we are aware that there is still much to be done by us in the industry to make solar power even more accessible to all.”
The Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) today announces the winners of its 2011 Achievement Awards. The Faraday Medal, its most celebrated prize, will be awarded to Donald E Knuth, Professor Emeritus at the Computer Science Department, Stanford University and author of the seminal publication The Art of Computer Programming.

Power Continuity Systems won the contract for the major power protection systems upgrade to the head office for national operations of Britannia Building Society. PowerContinuity Systems worked with the national building society, founded in 1856, to install a new N+2 resilient uninterruptible power supply system combined with diesel generators, as part of a major overhaul of the head office in Leek, Staffordshire.
