Siemens has handed over the first North Sea grid connection, BorWin2, to its customer TenneT. The German-Dutch transmission grid operator has accepted the project following successful completion of test runs by Siemens. The grid connection is therefore now in commercial operation.

BSRIA is sad to announce the death of Graeme Baker, former chief executive of the Association who died on Christmas Eve. Graeme joined the Heating and Ventilating Research Association in 1967 to run the newly formed test section. Just a year later the chairman reported in the Annual Report that “the decision to establish a Test Division has been an unqualified success”. Graeme had got off to a good start and he did not look back. He was quickly appointed contracts manager and proved adept at finding new opportunities and meeting the right people with whom to develop them.
Last week, the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) called on all electrical professionals across the industry to get up to speed with the latest amendments to the IET Wiring Regulations. This comes as the IET Wiring Regulations BS 7671:2008 incorporating Amendment 3:2015 launched on 5 January and is now available in both print and digital formats.
