EnerSys embeds battery intelligence to fortify data centre backup power

EnerSys has integrated advanced embedded technology for its DataSafe Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL) batteries, promising real-time monitoring and improved performance for data centres under growing power demands. 

The company’s new approach integrates monitoring capabilities directly into lead-acid batteries, helping operators spot potential issues early and significantly reduce downtime.

According to EnerSys, this embedded monitoring system works alongside the company’s EnVision Connect solution, offering granular insights into battery voltage and temperature. It believes that this will lead to quicker response times, fewer maintenance call-outs and tighter control over energy assets in critical environments.

To highlight the promise of the technology, EnerSys noted how a European data centre recently installed 260 DataSafe batteries featuring the embedded technology, aligning the system with the EnVision Connect monitor. 

It commented how receiving more frequent battery status updates meant that the facility reported fewer blind spots and a notable reduction in emergency maintenance visits. In fact, according to EnerSys, the deployment helped boost operational compliance and reduce the risks typically associated with backup power failures, particularly crucial ahead of a major international sporting event.
