Recolight begins 2024 with significant growth in membership

Recolight, a scheme focused on the recycling and reuse of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), has seen a notable increase in its membership. 

In January 2024, the organisation welcomed 15 new companies, with 12 of these transitioning from other schemes. Throughout 2023, an additional 20 companies joined Recolight. 

Nigel Harvey, CEO of Recolight, commented on the increase in membership, stating, “The number of producers joining Recolight is a testament to our shared environmental credentials. At Recolight, we are committed to providing a comprehensive recycling and reuse service for the customers of our Members. Over the last three years, we have been working with the lighting industry to drive the transition to a Circular Economy and have been instrumental in making change. We are delighted to be recognized as more than just a compliance scheme.”

The new members for 2024 include a diverse range of companies such as Anglepoise, Apollo Lighting, Coco Lighting, D.W. Windsor, ERCO Lighting, Future Designs, Holophane Europe, Light Projects, Lucent Lighting, Performance Lighting, RDF Lighting Power and Control, Shoplight, Silent Design, T.R. Ventures T/A Ultra LEDs, and Tridonic UK.

Several new members shared their reasons for joining Recolight. Glenn Hildyard, Director at Coco Lighting, cited Recolight's focus on circularity and sustainability as a key reason for joining the scheme. He noted, “Having been fortunate enough to attend a couple of Recolight’s workshops throughout 2023 and having also been invited to exhibit at Recolight’s Circular Lighting Live event this year, we felt that their dedication and drive surrounding circularity and sustainability was something that very much aligns to our own business philosophies. To us, it seemed too good an opportunity to let pass”.”

Meanwhile, Lucie Sidwell, Operations Director at Lucent Lighting, expressed excitement about the partnership, emphasising a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and a sustainable life cycle for lighting products. She commented, “This collaboration reflects our continuing dedication to providing not only innovative and efficient lighting solutions but also ensuring that our products are part of a sustainable lifecycle.”

Dave Barnwell, Managing Director of Holophane, cited shared values in sustainability and the circular economy as key factors in their decision to partner with Recolight, while James Goldsbrough, Managing Director at Apollo Lighting, highlighted Recolight's role as a sustainability benchmark in the marketplace.

Recolight's membership now stands at 220 producer members, marking the highest number since the organisation's founding in 2007. This diverse group ranges from some of the world's largest lighting companies to emerging start-ups.
