Powered On Live 2023: Has the windfall tax dented investment in renewable energy
Powered On Live 2023 will explore whether the windfall tax has dented investment in renewable energy as part of a panel session on day one.

Powered On Live 2023 is just a month away, with this year’s event set to explore whether the windfall tax has dented investment in renewable energy as part of a panel session on day one.
Gurpreet Gujral, Managing Director, Atrato Onsite Energy, and Tom Williams, Partner & Head of Energy Infrastructure, Downing LLP, are set to join the panel to discuss this all-important topic. It will be chaired by Frank Gordon, Policy Director at the Renewable Energy Association.
Speaker spotlight: Gurpreet Gujral
Gurpreet has been part of the renewable energy industry for 15 years having worked in public and private capital markets. Prior to joining the Atrato Group, Gurpreet was a Director at the Macquarie Group, where he spent 7 years working in the principal investment team at the Green Investment Group (GIG) and in the Equities business as the lead renewable energy analyst.
Speaker spotlight: Tom Williams
Tom trained as a solicitor before moving into private equity, where he carried out successful transactions totalling in excess of £13 billion in the energy, utilities, transportation, accommodation and defence sectors.
Speaker spotlight: Frank Gordon
Policy Director at REA also focusing on energy storage, grid networks and large scale renewable power. Frank has a background in energy and climate change policy in the UK central Government and the non-Governmental sector. Frank also holds a Master’s degree in Climate Change, coordinated the All Party Parliamentary Group on Climate Change and has co-authored a number of reports on renewable energy and storage.
The panel will officially kick off at 10:05am on June 14, 2023, and we’re sure there will be plenty to discuss. Thus far the Government’s windfall tax hasn’t exactly been met with open arms by the renewable energy industry, with Community Windpower even going so far as to sue the Government over the policy.
Powered On Live 2023 is already turning out to be stacked full of interesting sessions covering the length and breadth of the electrical industry. Kicking off the whole event will be Dr Dan Atzori from Cornwall Insight, who will deliver the day one keynote, while the ECA’s Andrew Eldred will kick off day two.
