Livingston MP tours renewable technology facility

Graeme Morrice the Member of Parliament for Livingston, has paid a visit to Mitsubishi Electric's Scottish factory to see for himself the renewable energy products that the facility is busy producing.

The plant manufactures Ecodan air source heat pump systems for the residential heating market and has just started producing a dedicated cylinder so that Mitsubishi Electric is able to offer a complete packaged home heating solution.

The company has been a strong supporter of the West Lothian economy for nearly 20 years and employs around 470 people at the Livingston plant. It recently made a £2.5m investment in its Livingston plant including state-of-the-art test facilities to demonstrate that Ecodan's can work at sub-zero temperatures and below.

Morrice was given a tour of the factory and met with the company's president, management and staff: "I was grateful for the opportunity to see at firsthand the excellent work being done by Mitsubishi Electric," he commented.

"It has a superb track record for developing innovative energy saving renewable heating products that support the reduction of carbon emissions and help to combat climate change," he added. With economic growth still stubbornly sluggish, innovative manufacturing firms like Mitsubishi are vital to the future development of the economy."

"Scotland and the rest of the UK have ambitious energy reduction targets to meet if carbon emissions are to be brought under control and the support of MPs such as Graeme Morrice is vital in helping to highlight the technology that is available right now and that can make a difference, house by house," explained Ed Knight, Mitsubishi Electric's heating technical specialist who accompanied the MP on the tour of the facility.
