Hughes Electrical supports Suffolk Libraries Day

Staff from Hughes Electrical stores across Suffolk have been taking to their vehicles to support a major fundraising initiative by the local library service.

In the lead up to Suffolk Libraries Day on 12 October, the challenge was set to take a book by author Pamela Holmes to all of the 44 libraries across the county, broken down into 42 individual legs, over six days – a total of nearly 325 miles.  

Suffolk Libraries put out an appeal to local organisations for assistance and Hughes responded by offering to help with legs on each day, including all three on the last which finished at Haverhill Library. 

Ashley Shorey-Mills from Hughes said, “We were pleased to play our part in this fun challenge which just emphasises the very important role libraries play in the local community. 

“Staff from our 12 branches in Suffolk came together to embrace the opportunity and come up with some ‘interesting’ modes of transport. Special mention must go to Peter Harvey, who volunteered to run the 16 miles from Eye to Ixworth. 

“As a business founded in Suffolk almost 100 years ago, our head office is still in Lowestoft, we see ourselves at the very heart of the county’s community. Therefore, we are always keen to support local initiatives, like the Suffolk Libraries Day, whenever we can.”
