Final substation floated out for world’s largest offshore wind farm
ABB has dispatched the last offshore substation for Dogger Bank C, a milestone that brings the Dogger Bank wind farm closer to completion.

ABB has dispatched the last offshore substation bound for Dogger Bank C, a milestone that completes the company’s electrical delivery across all three phases of what will become the world’s largest offshore wind farm.
The floating out of the final offshore substation for the project is the culmination of three phases worth of work – which included completing the electrical systems for Dogger Bank A, B, and C. The company was selected in 2019 to complete the work in partnership with Norwegian contractor Aibel.
Olav Opedal, Project Manager at Aibel, noted, “We’ve had a strong, collaborative relationship with ABB for many years, even before the Dogger Bank project. When we signed the contract for Dogger Bank C, it was more than a transaction – it marked the continuation of a trusted partnership.”
Dogger Bank C is positioned more than 130 km off the Yorkshire coast, with the 3.6 GW development expected to power about six million UK homes once fully online. ABB’s scope on the project spans auxiliary control systems, OT cybersecurity, IT infrastructure, condition monitoring, telecoms, low-voltage distribution and bus ducts. Together, these elements underpin remote operations and predictive maintenance, helping to cut offshore staffing and lengthen asset life.

Installation and energisation of the Dogger Bank C substation will complete the project’s 3.6 GW capacity, with first power from phase C targeted for 2026.
