ECA urges members to provide input on Wiring Regulations Amendment 3

The Electrical Contractors Association (ECA) is urging its members and the broader industry to comment on Amendment 3 to the current edition of the Wiring Regulations (BS 7671:2018+A2:2022).

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the British Standards Institution (BSI) are seeking input from the electrical industry on an amendment to BS 7671:2018+A2:2022. This amendment will undergo a Draft for Public Consultation (DPC) from 8 May to 5 June 2024.

The amendment stems from a bulletin issued by the British Electrotechnical and Allied Manufacturers Association (BEAMA), aimed at clarifying distinctions between connections for unidirectional and bidirectional Residual Current Devices (RCDs) and circuit-breakers. Scheduled for publication in summer 2024, the amendment will be freely accessible on both the IET's and BSI's websites.

Comments on the DPC can be submitted through BSI’s Standards Development portal by June 5, 2024 at 5pm.

Mark Coles, Head of Technical Regulations at the IET, stated, "When issues arise, it’s important that standards take on the necessary changes as quickly as possible. This fast-track route to amendment will allow designers and installers to quickly get the information out to their clients and promote safety in electrical installations."
