BRUSH Group has opened a new transformer test cell facility in Loughborough, aiming to enhance the testing capabilities for power transformers.

BRUSH Group has opened a new transformer test cell facility in Loughborough, Leicestershire, aiming to enhance the testing capabilities for newly manufactured power transformers.
The opening event was attended by key customer representatives and BRUSH employees. The new facility includes a high-voltage acoustic test area with 12-meter-high doors, allowing for a variety of tests on transformers to ensure high performance standards. This includes routine and type tests for transformers up to 170kV, covering both new builds and retrofit units.
The addition of this facility expands BRUSH's production capacity, responding to the increasing demand for power transformers in the UK, a critical component as the country advances its decarbonisation efforts.

The facility is designed with energy efficiency and safety in mind, meeting both IEC (BSEN) and ENA compliance standards. The types of tests conducted include winding resistance, core and frame insulation, and various others like temperature rise and sound level tests, ensuring comprehensive quality checks before transformers are dispatched to customers.
