Activ8 Energies acquires Low Carbon Energy to accelerate UK growth
Activ8 Energies has acquired Burnley-based solar installer Low Carbon Energy (LCE) in a 100% deal.

Activ8 Energies has acquired Burnley-based solar installer Low Carbon Energy (LCE) in a 100% deal, as the Irish firm sets out plans to double turnover and installed capacity while expanding across the UK’s commercial and industrial market.
The move aligns with Activ8’s push into UK infrastructure following its work on a £3 million solar farm at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, which is scheduled to go live next month and provide 25% of the airport’s electricity. Activ8 is 50% owned by SSE Airtricity, the Irish subsidiary of SSE.
Under the acquisition, Low Carbon Energy will continue to operate under its existing brand, led by current Managing Director Benedict Ennis. Founder Ged Ennis will remain involved as a non-executive director.
Founded in 2009, LCE has delivered more than 60 MW of installed solar capacity across 300+ sites and counts BMW, Porsche, Co-op, Boeing, Drax Power, Tata Steel, Wickes, United Utilities and the NHS among its clients.
