Cost-effective WLAN Access Point and Access Client for uninterrupted connections
Belden has extended its range of Hirschmann products to include the new WLAN Access Point BAT54-Rail Single. This device is designed for mounting on a top-hat rail and can be used both as Access Point and Access Client. Unlike the BAT54-Rail, this new Access Point has only one WLAN interface, making it a cost-effective alternative for applications that do not require a second interface. In common with its ‘elder brother’, however, the BAT54-Rail Single offers the full range of functions supported by the powerful HiLCOS operating system.
This Access Point offers transmission rates of up to 108 Mbit/s in either the 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz waveband. Fast roaming facilitates uninterrupted connections, even while changing from one radio cell to another. Network management can be carried out using browser-based, Telnet or Windows software that supports rogue AP detection, and all standard encryption methods as well as authentication compliant with IEEE 802.1x are also available. The series is equipped as standard with integrated firewalls and IP routers, enabling network segments to be isolated and reliably safeguarded. An RJ45 LAN port (10/100 BASE TX) is available for connection to terrestrial networks.
The BAT54-Rail Single device comes in a robust aluminum housing and is designed to operate within a temperature range of -30°C to +50°C.
The units fulfill all requirements with regard to shock-resistance, vibration-resistance and electromagnetic compatibility, making them eminently suitable, for instance, for vehicle installation.
In addition, a high level of operating security is provided by the redundant power supply, which possesses two 24V DC and one 48V DC connection supporting power-over-Ethernet compliant with IEEE 802.3af.
With this new Access Point Belden has rounded off the lower end of the Hirschmann BAT range. As Product Manager Olaf Schilperoort explains: “Like all the products in this range, the BAT54-Rail Single is optimally suitable for industrial use and is exceptional for its highly stable broadband wireless connection. Our comprehensive antenna program makes a further contribution, offering a total of 13 radial and sector antennas as well as leakage waveguides”.
