Multi-million deal for SES

The London & South East Division of building services provider, SES, has been awarded an £11.2m mechanical and electrical (M&E) contract to complete the services installation at Greenwich Council's new Civic Headquarters in Woolwich. M&E work is due to start on site in February 2010.

The total cost of the new, seven storey building will be in the region of £57m. During the 12 month M&E programme SES will work closely with principal contractor, Wates Construction, and the project team to ensure the tight schedule is adhered to, and issues such as logistics are addressed in the most efficient way.

Derek Joiner, divisional director for London and South East comments, "As part of our on-going strategy to ‘build before we build', a large part of this job will be pre-fabricated off-site first. As well as meeting the ‘green' objectives of the client, the benefits of pre-fabrication are now widely recognised throughout the construction industry - improved installation periods, quality, site safety and reduced waste.

"PRISM (prefabricated integrated services modules), our in-house manufacturing division, has worked alongside the Woolwich project team from day one. Together they have identified a number of areas suitable for off-site modularisation, including under-floor modules, risers, pump & plantroom skids and modular wiring."

The Building will be operational in mid 2011, providing excellent working conditions in the new 18,000sq m building. The Building will provide much improved access to a wide range of services for local residents, including an integrated service centre, a customer contact centre, Woolwich Library and the new Greenwich Gallery, which will offer meeting space for up to 200 people.
