No need for subsidies says British Energy

Nuclear plants can be built without subsidy British Energy (BE) insisted this month.
The company has indicated it would be interested in building and operating a new generation of nuclear power stations provided it had long-term contracts for their output at guaranteed prices.
Bill Coley, British Energy’s CEO, said potential investors would need “price certainty” before committing to funding. Coley was speaking as, only a year after receiving a £5bn rescue package from the government, the company announced full-year profits of £599m for the year ending March 2006 –
