New site to encourage marine energy
A plan for a £6m sea-test centre, unveiled this week, should secure contracts for test-bed clients by the end of summer.
The site, close to the island of Eday in Scotland, will be run by European Marine Energy Centre, which already operates a test centre close to Orkney. Emec comprises four test beds, which are connected to the national grid with comprehensive observation facilities and are designed to enable organisations to test marine-based technology. Its only fully functioning client, Ocean Power Delivery, announced last week that it would build the world’s first wave farm in Portugal.
