Dyer & Butler Electrical has completed a new electric vehicle (EV) charging point project to support the arrival of Blue city’s electric car sharing service at Gatwick Airport.
Blue city, London’s only 100% electric car sharing scheme, agreed with Gatwick Airport Limited (GAL) Retail to develop an on-airport car share facility. Blue city has a total of 100 zero emission cars available for car sharing customers.
Dyer & Butler Electrical, part of M Group Services, was commissioned to design and install ten dedicated Blue city charging bays. The new Blue city station, located alongside the Gatwick South Terminal, offers the airport’s first EV charging points and required Dyer & Butler Electrical to work in collaboration with GAL’s lead electrical engineer around earthing arrangements and lightning protection.
Following this successful project, Dyer & Butler Electrical was commissioned to install multiple charging points around the airport. This new project involved the installation of 28 charging points, located at Gatwick Airport’s vehicle fleet campus and public short stay car parks, as part of GAL’s plan to support the growing number of EVs being used at the airport.
During the installation works, the Dyer & Butler Electrical team worked closely with GAL to ensure minimal disruption for the public and those using GAL’s campus. With the initial wave of charging points successfully installed, Dyer & Butler Electrical is working with GAL on an extended installation programme that will see further EV charging points located at the airport.
