POWER PLANT MANAGER, BELCOGEN, BELIZE

Booker Tate, a subsidiary of Tsb Sugar, is a global leader in the provision of development, management and technical services to the world of sugar, ethanol, bio-energy and other agribusiness projects.

We have operational and project management experience world-wide with specific interest in Africa,Central/South America and the Caribbean, Asia Pacific and the Middle East.

We now have a vacancy for an initial period of one year for a Power Plant Manager at a well established agro-industrial business in northern Belize. The complex comprises of a sugar factory with an annual capacity of 1.2 million tonnes cane per year and an associated cogeneration power plant with a capacity of 31.5 MW. The power plant, which was commissioned in late 2009, is DCS controlled and is fuelled by bagasse from the sugar factory. The power plant meets the whole of the sugar factory’s electrical energy demand and exports a substantial amount of electrical energy to the national grid.

The main responsibilities of the Power Plant Manager are to manage and control the day to day technical operation of the power plant, including maintenance, budgets, safety and efficiency and technical and managerial team development.

To be successful, you must possess:

• A first degree in an engineering discipline, or an equivalent diploma, with a minimum of ten years experience in a high pressure steam turbine power station supplying power to the national grid;

• Practical experience of operating and maintaining DCS controlled, coal or bagasse fired, water tube boilers with steam pressure in the region of 60 bar;

• An in-depth understanding of statutory boiler safety requirements, feed water and boiler water treatment, boiler construction and repair techniques;

• A boiler operator’s licence would be advantageous;

• Practical experience of operating steam turbine driven alternators, engine driven alternators and their associated switchgear and protection equipment;

• A good understanding of safety, occupational health and environment systems;

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

• Computer skills - MS Word and Excel;

• Fluency in written and spoken English.

International experience will be welcomed.
