Wind energy is currently better developed and more commercially viable than other renewable energy sources and is spearheading Britain’s efforts to generate its electricity from renewable sources. The UK a recognised world leader in offshore wind power generation is building more offshore wind farms than any other country, accounts for almost all of the turbines erected in European waters this year and is attracting new business from around the world in a difficult economic climate.

The technical developments enabling offshore wind technology have been increasing, especially in the following areas:- grid connection, HVDC multi-terminal systems, improving operational range of offshore wind turbines, interconnecting large offshore wind farms, HVAC and HVDC offshore platforms and subsea cable installation. Siemens, ABB, Alstom, Converteam, Mainstream Renewable Power, Gamesa, REpower

Germany and Narec are leading experts in this area and will be sharing their experience, success and innovations at the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s forthcoming Offshore Wind Technology Conference, 12 – 13 December 2011, Birmingham.

Presentations, and dedicated delegate discussions, will be structured around the following topics:-

Latest technology developments

Cost reduction strategies

Offshore foundations and structures

Case studies from offshore projects in Europe

Industry perspective on Round 3 developments

Lessons learnt from earlier rounds
