CG has been awarded the contract for the design, engineering, supply and installation of the onshore and offshore substations at the 219 MW Humber Gateway offshore wind farm in the UK.
Humber Gateway is a Round 2 Offshore Wind Project owned by E.ON. The scheme is based on 73 multi megawatt turbines, power from which will be collected and delivered to the 280 MVA offshore substation platform. It will be transformed up to 132 kV and delivered onshore via 2 export cables to a new National Grid substation 30 km inland at Hedon on Staithes Road in Hull. CG’s scope in the multi-million pound contract includes detailed electrical system design with grid code compliance, supply of a high voltage Offshore Substation consisting of two step up power transformers, medium voltage and high voltage GIS installed by E.ON on a single jacket foundation and a 132/275 kV onshore substation works including two large autotransformers, reactive power compensation equipment, high voltage switchgear, an IEC 61850 based SCADA, protection and control, and civil works. The substations are scheduled to be installed and commissioned in 2013 and to become fully operational in early 2014.

The offshore marine energy project in Cornwall, which allows developers to test new wave energy technology, will be taken on by the government to secure its future as a vital part of the UK's green energy sources.
The Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) will take over ownership of the Wave Hub asset from the South West Regional Development Agency (RDA) on the 1 January 2012.
To manage the day-to-day operation of the testing facility on its behalf, BIS has set up a stand-alone operating company, Wave Hub Limited, which will be based in Hayle, Cornwall. This arrangement will allow the project to build on the operational plans already put in place by the RDA.

A significant milestone in the building of the EaRTH project was celebrated on Friday 16 December at Bicton College.
The unusual topping out ceremony saw Bicton Principal David Henley laying a sedum mat some 5m above the ground over the stylish curved entrance of EaRTH, the college’s new Environmental and Renewable Technologies Hub.
The vegetative mat for the roof has been sourced from Blackdown Greenroofs of Chard, and is a mix of hardy succulent plants and wildflowers designed as an ecological protection layer to reduce storm water, lower carbon emissions and provide a minimal maintenance, drought resistant jacket.

The Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) has issued a strong warning to government that any plans for a drastic cut in Feed-in Tariffs (FITs) are set to wreak havoc with green jobs and growth, and could easily send out the signal that small scale renewables are too risky for installers or customers to invest in.
